Projected stories

Thu 09.11.
13:00

What forms of communication can arise when we interrogate or disrupt a cinematic space? It can be a traditional dedicated cinema theater, or any kind of space set up to share cinematic experience. Usually, the space is designed or transformed into a centralistic space, wired to bring films to the screen and the sound system that will hold the undivided attention of the audience. The cinema is often perceived as a closed circuit that fortifies a dominating narrator in the film. How can one use methods of storytelling and cinematic technology to challenge the dominant narrator and channel a polyphonic narration of stories? Drawing from the tradition of slideshows cinema performances from the silent film era, Lisabona Rahman will present short excerpts from her Jalur Suara cinema lectures and conduct a workshop that explores (or plays with) devices of projection and narrations. Please feel free to bring your own 16mm-reels or slides to the workshop. (fe)

The number of participants for the workshops is limited, and places will be allocated in the order of registration. Please register by 6.11.2023 by sending an email to workshop.feminist.elsewheres@gmail.com.
